Milton's paradise Lost digital illustrations by Gustave Dore. Hand-tinted lantern slide digital files by Gustave Dore from Milton's Paradise Lost. This is for a digital file of scans taken from a set of antique stereopticon lantern slides. The lantern was a precursor to motion films as it allowed the images to have a smooth transition by holding two at once. The slides are made up of a (in this case) hand-tinted film that is held between two thin pieces of glass. The pieces of film are around 2 1/2” by 3”, orgional size. The images are copies of the Paul Gustave Dore (1832-1883) wood-cut illustrations for Milton's “Paradise Lost”. They were hand-tinted in a strong range of colours. They have been stored in the dark so the colours haven't faded. Considering when these types of slides were popular and figuring in the age of some dated slides from the same group we think they are likely to have been done between 1900 and 1910. We have a group of twelve images that vary a bit in size. The individual images were scanned to be roughly 1200 pixels wide by 1500 pixels high (except one which is only 1000 pixels wide). The image you recieve will not have the watermarks. This is a fantastic set of angel and demon images, all ready for use in your own creations. (or simply print them out and hang on your walls!)
